LOCALS STOPPED WORKS ON DRAINAGE CHANNELS

Residents of the Rudarska street in Novo Selo, on World Water Day March 22, stopped the digging of the channels for which the order was sent to "Company for Roads" issued by the management of the City of Nis. The channel is supposed to carry water from the flooded areas in the sewer of Rudarska street but the citizens objected because the local sewage has low capacity.

Sewage in Novo Selo village, due to the small falls, particularly are problematic side streets, hardly receives atmospheric water. The area flooded with outpouring of groundwater, the situation is the most difficult, especially in the part of the street dr Sava Petrovic. Because immersion of pump, the residents of this part of the village do not have drinking water. In a meeting with the residents of this street, it was agreed that by the end of the day, JKP "Naisus" company in tanks deliver water to drink.

President of Palilula Municipality Boban Džunić repeatedly visited the affected area and tried to find the appropriate solution to the problem. City Municipality of Palilula, on this occasion, sent a request to declare an emergency state in the territory. As explained by the villagers themselves,, there is a bigger problem because the waste from septic tanks overflows and even more and more houses are threatened. Although the Municipal Assembly of Palilula asked to declare emergency state because of flooding, the City staff for emergency situations in Niš has not made that decision.

Head of Sector for Emergency Situations Predrag Maric told that the problem with underground waters that flooded Novo Selo and Industrial zone in Donje Medjurovo is regulated by the Law on Waters. He says that for the water of the second order are indebted local governments, which often do not have money even for the experts to perform the job.

Groundwaters have caused great harm to the residents of Novo Selo. Courtyards, houses, cellars, fields are all underwater. Similar problems have the residents of the Gornje Medjurovo, Bubanj village and Belotinac.
